As the Medical Strategy Officer at VitalWear, a medtech startup located on the High Tech Campus, Jettie Hoonhout brings cutting-edge photonics technology directly into the healthcare domain. Her daily drive comes from doing something genuinely useful that improves the lives of both patients and nurses.
“"What makes me most proud of my job is working with cutting-edge photonics technology to create something genuinely useful for patients and nurses."”
Jettie’s team integrates incredibly thin photonic fibers into specialized textiles. These advanced fabrics can measure minute changes in pressure and temperature on a patient’s skin. The goal is to detect painful and costly pressure ulcers in immobile patients early, long before they develop into open wounds. Beyond the technology, Jettie is incredibly proud of her team’s culture, noting that working in a startup gives young professionals far more responsibility and rewarding learning opportunities than they would find at larger companies.
